Pupil exclusions are on the rise. How can CJ’s help?
More pupils are being expelled from school than ever before – but Commando Joe’s is on a mission to change that.
THE government recently released some shocking figures, showing that the number of pupils being expelled in certain parts of the UK has risen by 300%.
When national figures like these show such a worrying trend, it’s easy to panic and assume it’s a hopeless situation.
But here at Commando Joe’s, the opposite is true. Until those figures make a U-turn, we’ll be working even harder in all of our schools to make sure that no child is left behind through our Character Education Curriculum.
Our mission is to encourage pupils to want to be in school, work hard, feel valued and want to succeed. And the hundreds of schools we work with across the country are seeing real results when it comes to boosting good behaviour, decreasing exclusions and increasing attendance.
In our experience, there are any number of different circumstances that can trigger an exclusion – sometimes with a root in physical and mental health or simply a general lack of engagement.
So how do our instructors help tackle this problem? Our aim is to go about creating a school culture that builds character and nurtures respect, co-operation and self-belief – and to make sure every child feels involved in that.
Each time we enter a new school, we set about strengthening this culture, in accordance with the values already put in place by staff members. Offering breakfast clubs, after-school activities and one-to-one mentoring means every pupil can get to know and learn from our Commando Joes.
And you don’t just have to take our word for it. Research carried out by Swansea University into the impact of Commando Joe’s shows that, compared to schools without intervention, pupils in schools employing our instructors showed these improvements after just three months:
:: Higher Maths and English scores
:: Greater improvements in positive behaviour
:: Greater reductions in hyperactive and irritable behaviour
:: And, after six months, results showed improved attendance
We know that everybody working hard in education wants every child in their school to succeed – and here at Commando Joe’s, it’s our mission to help make that a reality.
