If you are wondering how, you can support the environment with Commando Joe’s, read on. If you have a new box and are unsure what to do with your old one, there are several ways to upcycle it and use it to its full potential. Here are three ideas: turn it into a community planter, use it for class storage, or repurpose it into a bench.

  • Community Planter: Convert the old boxes into planters for community gardens or green spaces. This not only reduces waste but also contributes to urban greening efforts and promotes biodiversity.
  • Classroom Storage: Repurpose the boxes as storage containers for classroom supplies or educational materials. This extends the lifespan of the boxes and provides a practical solution for organisation.
  • Bench: Transform the boxes into benches or seating arrangements for outdoor areas. By upcycling the boxes in this way, they can serve a new purpose while also enhancing the usability of outdoor spaces.

Our commitment is not only to the individuals and schools we serve but also to the planet on which they live. Therefore, we have embarked on a journey to achieve Net Zero by 2045, with a rigorous carbon reduction plan that includes both short-term and long-term goals, in line with government legislation. Here are some other ways you can incorporate environmentally conscious changes to your school:

  • Implement Recycling Programs: Set up recycling bins for paper, plastic, glass, and cans throughout the school. Educate students and staff about what can be recycled and how to properly sort their waste.
  • Reduce Paper Usage: Encourage the use of digital platforms for newsletters, announcements, and communications to minimise paper waste. When printing is necessary, encourage double-sided printing and the use of recycled paper.
  • Energy Conservation: Implement energy-saving practices such as turning off lights and electronics when not in use, using energy-efficient appliances and light bulbs, and optimising heating and cooling systems.
  • Promote Sustainable Transportation: Encourage students and staff to carpool, bike, walk, or use public transportation to reduce carbon emissions from vehicles.
  • Green Lunch Initiatives: Encourage the use of reusable lunch containers and water bottles instead of single-use plastics. Offer vegetarian or vegan meal options to reduce the environmental impact of food production.
  • Create a School Garden: Establish a school garden where students can learn about gardening, composting, and sustainable agriculture. Use the produce in school meals or donate it to local food banks.
  • Environmental Education Curriculum: Incorporate environmental topics into various subjects, such as science, geography, and social studies. Teach students about climate change, biodiversity, conservation, and sustainable practices.
  • Outdoor Learning Spaces: Utilise outdoor areas for learning activities and environmental education. Create outdoor classrooms or nature trails where students can connect with nature and learn about local ecosystems.
  • Engage in Eco-friendly Projects: Organise environmental cleanup events, tree planting activities, or campaigns to raise awareness about specific environmental issues affecting the local community.
